Many people will grab whatever they see first to dry their car. This is one of the easiest ways you can damage your paint. Using an old t-shirt or bath towel to dry your car can cause swirls in your paint. These swirls are made up of thousand of micro-scratches and are most visible on vehicles with darker paint. Swirl marks can be noticed most in direct sunlight or under street lights at night.
So what should you be using to dry your car? A microfiber towel or waffle weave drying towel will lubricate the surface will drying. These products will softly absorb the water from your paint to your towel while providing lubrication to glide against the paint instead of causing friction. This unwanted friction is the culprit scratching your car and causing swirls in the paint.
